

James J. Garrander, a veteran of The Korean War and longtime resident of Whiting, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on October 30, 2021. Jim, as he was known to many, was born February 10, 1934 to Leo and Cecilia (Pasalano) Garrander, enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953. As a private, first class for the Army, he served briefly during The Korean War and then he went to Germany for the remainder of his service. He shared many stories of his time there in letters he sent home to his future wife, Teresa Sesta.
After his service ended in 1955, Jim returned home and married the love of his life, Teresa on September 25, 1955. Several years later, they moved to Hazlet, NJ. Jim worked for AkzoNobel as a chemical operator, until he retired in 1986. After their daughter was grown, they moved to Parlin, NJ and eventually settled in Whiting, NJ. They made many wonderful friends throughout their years together, and they enjoyed participating in outings to Woodloch Resort, Atlantic City and volunteering with their church.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa, his parents and his brothers Louis, Frank and George. He's survived by his daughter Cecelia and her wife Debbie, his granddaughter Carly, his brother-in-law Lawrence and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. .
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, December 4th from 12PM to 2PM, with a service at 1:15 at Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River.
