Janet was born in Queens, N.Y. and was the daughter of Albert and Hazel (Stanton) Stemmle. She spent her childhood in Jersey City, N.J. where she graduated from St. Dominic Academy. Janet then attended Montclair State University (Panzer College) and graduated with a B.S. in physical education.
Janet’s started her teaching career in Springfield N.J. as a middle school physical education teacher and girls’ basketball referee before taking a number of years off to raise her family. She resumed her career, first as the assignor for girl’s high school basketball officials for the State of New Jersey, a position that she held for a number of years. Janet then moved on to Our Lady of Peace School in New Providence as a physical education teacher before switching schools to Seth Boyden Elementary School, where she taught for over 20 years in Maplewood/South Orange School District until her retirement in 2007. She was the guru of Field Day, the inspiration of many young athletes and the master of school parking. After her career Janet enjoyed spending time with her beloved husband Al, adoring children and her beloved grandchildren. She loved going to the mall, cooking, watching sports on TV and working on her embroidery. Janet will be remembered for her loving spirit, her desire for fairness and extreme love for her family.
Janet has been reunited with her loving husband of 55 years, Al. She is survived by her adoring children, Caren (Brian) Pozniak, Cathy Kearns, Louis James Hector IV and Patricia (Greg) Viscomi. She was the cherished Grandma of: Brendan, Joseph, Erin, PJ, Thomas, Louis, Kayla, Sophia, Brynn, Frankie and Cassie, and sister of Joan Sorrentino, Elaine Stemmle, and William (Phyllis) Stemmle. She is predeceased by her parents, her brother Robert Stemmle, and granddaughter Veronica Hector.
