Janice (Tucker) Sambol, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, peacefully passed away on February 4, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at her home. She was 90 years old. She was born on August 1, 1933, in Newark, NJ. She was the second child and the first daughter of Isador and Anna Tucker.
In the mid 1940s, Janice moved, with her parents, brother Herb, and sister Elaine, to Toms River, NJ. She graduated from Toms River High School and then attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY.
In 1953, she married Richard (“Dick”) Sambol. In the early days of their marriage, she and Dick lived in Brooklyn, NY. There, Janice gave birth to their first son Herb. With their infant son, they then moved to Toms River, where Dick started Sambol Construction and they soon had sons Gary and Eric.
When Janice and Dick were in Toms River, her parents were their neighbors. She always had a very close relationship with them and, when they were elderly, Janice attended to their every need. She was their angel.
Janice was an extraordinarily talented artist, who painted with oils and with watercolors. She also loved to play tennis, but golf was for her the ultimate sport. At her home course, Hollywood Golf Club in Deal, NJ, she won eight club championships. Professional golfer, Val Skinner, once wrote her - "Janice, I want to thank you for being such an excellent mentor to so many women in golf...women like you helped women like me, so thank you for your gifts to golf."
Janice had many friends, and they will remember her for her kindness and genuineness. Friends and relatives will have fond memories of all the get togethers she had at her home in Toms River and all the wonderful parties she hosted in Middletown.
More than anything, Janice was a devoted wife and mother. That was the role she valued the most. Her sons will remember her for her unconditional love and devotion and will forever cherish the gift that she was to them.
Janice leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. She will forever live on in the hearts of all those who knew her.
Janice is survived by her sister Elaine, sons Herb, Gary, and Eric, daughter-in-law Lynn, and granddaughters Drew and her husband Josh and Brooke. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dick, her brother Herb, and her parents Isador and Anna.
A burial and memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Congregation B'nai Israel Cemetery, 1224 West Whitty Road, Toms River NJ. Immediately following the service, friends and family are invited to join the immediate family at Congregation B’nai Israel synagogue, 1488 Old Freehold Rd, Toms River, for a reception to honor Janice and her remarkable life.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Congregation B’nai Israel in memory of Janice.
