Born and raised in Bergen County, Jean spent her youth in Hillsdale before marrying and moving to Barnegat Township, Ocean County, to raise her children. Jean brought her passion for teaching to fruition, obtaining her teaching degree from Georgian Court University. She was employed by the Barnegat Township Schools and took great pride in working with children. Anyone who called Jean a friend knew she was a wonderful listener. She was empathetic, non-judgmental and wildly intuitive. Her ability to keep a secret was legendary and earned her the nickname "the vault" amongst her family.
She is predeceased by her parents, Charles A. McDevitt II and Margaret McDevitt, and two brothers, William and Robert McDevitt. She is survived by her siblings Charles A. McDevitt, III (Maryann), Patricia Donovan (James) and Raymond McDevitt (Coreen). Jean is also survived by the love of her life, Robert G. deBlois, with whom she shared many years of laughter and love; enjoying the world around them, gardening and raising yorkies. Additionally, she is survived by her children, Jennifer Uberti, her husband Paul and their children Nicholas, Ryan and Kathryn; Joanna Bassie and her husband Jeffrey and their children Julia and Jackson; and William (Bill) Schaab and his wife Meghan and their children Billy, Emma and Gwen.
