

Jean A. Mastasio, 95, of Toms River, NJ - formerly of Eatontown, NJ - died on Friday, March 31st at her home in The Havens Assisted Living. She passed peacefully surrounded by her children. Jean was born in Rochester, NY, where she grew up and graduated from Brighton High School. She attended the College of St. Elizabeth, NJ, later transferring and receiving her degree in English from Nazareth College in Rochester, NY. Before getting married, Jean worked for the International Paper Company in NY, NY. She also attended Monmouth University, Long Branch, NJ, where she obtained her certification for Teacher of the Handicapped.
While at home raising her five children, Jean was an active volunteer in many organizations, all within the community of Eatontown. To name a few: Eatontown PTA, St. Dorothea's Confraternity of Christian Mothers, Woman's Community Club of Eatontown, Eatontown Historical Community. She eventually went on to teach at The Monmouth School for Exceptional Children in Eatontown, and finished her teaching career at Cerebral Palsy of Monmouth and Ocean Counties (now known as the Ladacin Network). After moving to Independent Living at Silverwoods, Toms River, in 2010, Jean remained a very active member of that community. In October of 2021 she moved to Assisted Living at the Havens, also in Toms River, her final home.
Jean was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, John A. Mastasio; her grandson, Jake Giovanni Bucci; her parents Mildred and Alfred Stephany; her sisters Shirley Westbrook and Mildred Smith; her brothers Edward Stephany and Greg Stephany; her brothers-in-law Robert Westbrook and Bradley Smith; and her sisters-in-law Jane Stephany and Nancy Stephany. Surviving are: son, John F. Mastasio (Patricia) of Geneseo, NY; daughter, Carole Mastasio Bauer (Douglas) of Toms River; daughter, Susan Mastasio Smith (Kenneth) of Toms River; daughter, Ann Mastasio McTigue (Robert) of Toms River; daughter Gina Mastasio Bucci (Robert) of Medford Lakes, NJ; her 16 remaining grandchildren: Christopher Mastasio, Rebecca Mastasio Benham, Daniel Mastasio, Jake Mastasio, Brittni Bauer Harris, Chad Bauer, Troy Bauer, Weston Smith, Randell Smith, Ryan Smith, Stephen McTigue, Brandon McTigue, Carla McTigue, Stephany Bucci, Jamey Bucci, Zachary Bucci; her 23 great grandchildren (Amelya, Benjamin, Jackson, Johana, Lily, Genevieve, Sarah, Maya, Georgia, Willa, Logan, Emily, Elijah, Owen, Samson, Kenzie, Landon, Joelle, Avery, Wyatt, Lena, Jace, Johnathan); brother A.J. Stephany and wife Judy; and many loved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 4 at the Anderson Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St, Toms River, NJ. Visiting hours will be from 12:30-3:00 with a funeral service to begin at 3:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jakey G Foundation c/o Gina Bucci, 221 Cheyenne Trail, Medford Lakes, NJ 08055.
