Joan A. Hayes

Joan Audrey Hayes, 81, of Forked River, died Saturday, March 20, 2010, at Tall Woods Care Center, Bayville, NJ. Born in Lakewood, she had resided in Lakehurst and Toms River, before moving to Forked River in 1985. Joan had worked for IGA Supermarkets, Lakehurst as a manager, for over 20 years before retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Lakehurst United Methodist Church, and was a member of its Women's Society. She also served as the Superintendent of the churches Sunday School, and was a member of the choir.

Surviving are her husband, Gerald R. Hayes; two sons, Dennis Thompson and his wife Claire, of Land-O-Lakes, Fla., and Stephen Hayes, and his wife Kathy, of Beachwood; her three daughters, Susan Ratkowski and her husband Jim of Bath, NC, Laurel Polhemus and husband Tim of Beachwood, and Lisa Horton and her husband Ken of Huntsville, Ala.; and her three sisters, Dottie Budd and her husband Dick, of Rockville, Md., Joyce Magee and her husband Leonard of Lakehurst, and Barbara Edwards of Toms River. She is also survived by eight loving grandchildren: Heather, T.J., Greg, Karen, Jeff, Eric, Jenny, and David; and two great grandchildren Morgan and Addison.

Visiting will be held Wednesday, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St. Toms River. Funeral services will take place Thursday 11:00 a.m. at the Lakehurst United Methodist Church, followed by interment Friday, 10:30 a.m. at Brig. General Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Lakehurst United Methodist Church, 204 Elm St. Lakehurst, NJ 08733.
