Joanne Kathleen Ackerman, 78, formerly of Howell, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 4th, 2026. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she later lived in Old Bridge and Jackson before moving to Howell in 1996.
Joanne graduated from Prospects Heights High School in Brooklyn, NY. Throughout her career, she worked as a secretary for Chase Manhattan Bank, in the personnel department at Sunshine Biscuits, as an office manager for Advanced Psychological Assistance, and as a billing and insurance coordinator for A&W Psychology. After retiring, Joanne enjoyed volunteering at Kimball Medical Center as a front desk receptionist and candy striper. Joanne loved reading, spending time at the beach, watching Grey's Anatomy, Oldies Concerts, and traveling. Aruba and Disney were her favorite vacation spots. Above all else, she treasured time with her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she loved with all of her heart. Her kindness, warmth, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Joanne was predeceased by her parents, George and Francis Keenan; her grandparents, Frank and Katie Ferraro; and her brother, George Keenan. She is survived by her beloved husband, Edward, of 33 years; her loving children, Debbie Canal and husband, Peter, of Brick, Joseph Rovi and his fiancée, Maureen Connelly, of Toms River, and Dawn Arons and her husband, Robert, of Piscataway. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Kyle, Julia, Tyler, and Anthony.
Visitation and service will be held on Monday, August 10th, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital or the ASPCA would be appreciated.
