

John Del Sordi, age 85, of Toms River passed away peacefully surrounded by family members at his home on Wednesday, February 12th. Born in Newark, John was the son of Christopher Del Sordi and Mafalda (Mollie) Del Sordi (nee’ Monteverde). He lived in Maplewood before settling in East Hanover in the 1970s.
John attended Barringer High School North Ward, in Newark, NJ where he had a love for sports that was evident in his dedication and deep appreciation for football that continued throughout his life. He was a devout weekend football enthusiast and fan of Rutgers College football and the Giants. He was a valued employee at American Bakeries for over 40 years. He served as a Delegate and Committee member to the Teamsters Union to represent Depot workers. John was a vocal advocate for workers rights, working tirelessly for proper and equitable compensation.
An avid bowler, he was in various leagues constantly curating and perfecting his craft. He had a gift for conversation and could talk to anyone about anything, always making people feel heard and valued. He had a knack for bringing people together, with an infectious energy and charm, John was undoubtedly always the life of the party. He can be remembered by many for his fascination with National Geographic, often staying up late into the night, captivated by the incredible stories. In retirement, he frequented Harrah’s in Atlantic City with his wife, Rita, where he loved to try his luck at the tables, the one arm bandits, and enjoy the thrill of the game.
He now joins his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Rita Del Sordi(Cantore), who passed before him. Devoted father to Lois Herkimer and her husband Jeff, and John Del Sordi and his wife Mariangela.
He cherished every moment spent with his family, whether sharing meals, telling stories, or simply enjoying each other's company especially his grandchildren; Michael Del Sordi and wife Kimberly, Alexandria Herkimer, John Del Sordi, Samantha Herkimer, Brad Herkimer, Maria Del Sordi, as well as, his great granddaughter Sofia Del Sordi.
He leaves behind his loving sister-in-laws Marie Cargill, Norma Del Sordi, and Trudy Del Sordi, as well as, many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in his memory.

A memorial service for John will be held Friday, February 21, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755.
