

John James “Jack” Devenney, 93, of Toms River, NJ, passed away on March 23, 2024. He was born in Bayonne, NJ, where he grew up. After high school, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served on the USS Miller. Jack and his buddies went to Roseland Ballroom where he met the love of his life, Joan Carol Enos from Taunton, MA. They married on October 29, 1955 and settled in Toms River. He was employed with JCP&L for 37 years before his retirement.
Jack was proud of his Irish roots, traveling there to visit family. He was an avid sailor. Joan and Jack spent summers sailing the Barnegat Bay. They loved bringing the family out sailing and crabbing. He was most proud of his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Joan in 2020, his sister Sarah Dempsey and brother-in-law Moe Dempsey. Surviving are his five children: John (Kathy), Jim (Cindy), Joanne Flanagan and her partner Frank Holman, Joe (Debbie) and Jeff (Linda); his sister Kathleen Dudas (Charles); 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 10:30 am at St. Luke Church, 1674 Old Freehold Road, and Toms River, NJ. Cremation is private.
