

John Edwin Stoll, age 89, died on May 20, 2020, at Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ, from heart failure. Born on August 27, 1930 in Ozone Park, NY, to George and Aurora Stoll, John was raised in Elmont, NY. After attending Sewanhaka High School, he joined the Navy Reserve, and later served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. In 1952, he married the love of his life, Marie Walsh, and they moved to Farmingdale, NY. He worked as a truck driver, and was a volunteer firefighter on Long Island for over forty years. John and Marie moved to Toms River, NJ after their children were grown.
John was a talented artist; he sketched and painted in oils. He believed he could fix anything and was often in his garage, tinkering and whistling, or chatting with neighbors. He told stories about his childhood antics, and he loved a great joke. John excelled in playing football and baseball with his friends in his youth, and later loved playing ball with his children and their friends. He was a wonderful family man who was dearly loved by all.
John was predeceased by his beloved wife Marie, his parents George and Aurora Stoll, and his sister Irma DeRosa. He is survived by his children John E. (Lynne) Stoll, Jr., Diane (Bob) Hunt, and Ken (Ellen) Stoll; his grandchildren Susan (Peter) Heusinger, John S. Stoll, Michael (Laura) Stoll, Maura Hunt, Tim Hunt, Briana Stoll and Peter (Johanna) Stoll; six great-grandchildren; and his siblings, George Stoll and Norma Kuhn.
Funeral arrangements will be private due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A memorial celebration will be planned at a future date.
