Joseph Kosmich, 90, of Toms River, NJ, passed away on July 25, 2023, at Ocean Medical Center in Brick. Born in New York City, NY, he lived in Vernon Township, NJ, before moving to Toms River two years ago. Joseph served in the Army Reserve and was a pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinal Minor League team. He retired from Simmons Precision in Chester, NJ, in 1994. Joseph cherished time with his family, especially over a good cup of coffee.
In his younger days, he loved playing sports, particularly baseball and hockey. He had the joy of being picked up by Babe Ruth himself as a small boy, which ignited his lifelong passion. Joseph fondly remembered playing hockey at the old Madison Square Garden and connecting with NY Rangers legends.
Despite moving to the "country," Joseph remained a NYC kid at heart, always loving the hustle and bustle of the city. He enjoyed watching baseball, passionately supporting his beloved NY Mets, and never hesitated to express his feelings during their games.
Joseph had a gift for connecting with people and brightening their day, whether they were family or strangers. His compassionate conversations left others amazed and uplifted. He wanted to be remembered as an ordinary "Joe."
He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Anastasia Kosmich and his beloved wife Lillian (nee Imrek) in 2011. Surviving are his children Joel Kosmich and his fiancé Laura Clark-Kelly and April Kosmich-Mirra and her husband Vincent; and his sister Pinky.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 708 Route 88, Point Pleasant, NJ 08742. Cremation is private.
