

It is with great sadness that the family of Joseph T. Schmelz announces his passing comfortably at home on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2018 at the age of 84 years. Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Peggy and his children, Nancy Martinez and her husband Joe, Pegi DeMeo and her husband Ray, Mary Beth Weber and her husband Jack, Joe Schmelz and his wife Tina, Karen Timpanaro and her husband John, Tommy Schmelz and his wife Janine.
Joe will also be fondly remembered by his 14 grandchildren:
Joey, Melissa, Jared, Kayla, Jake, Graham, Joseph Henry, Meghan, J.T., Derek, Shane, Nick, Olivia and Alex, by his brothers, Frank and his wife Rita and Charlie.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Madeline Schmelz, sisters Madeline and Agnes and brother Bill.
Joe was born in Jersey City, raised in North Bergen and was a former resident of Palisades Park, NJ and Pocono Lake, PA before settling in the Holiday Heights section of Berkeley Township five years ago.
A US Army veteran, Joe was an active member of Pocono Lake Roads Committee and enjoyed playing golf and working on his cars.
Joe was an Operating Engineer for Spearin, Preston, and Burrows in Staten Island for many years before retiring in 1996.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 130 St. Maximilian Lane, Toms River NJ 08757 on Monday, November 26, 2018 at 11:30 AM.
Private interment with military honors will take place at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ 08562 at a later date.
