June L. Thiemann

June was named for the month she was born in 1944 to James and Lena Hammell in Teaneck, NJ and she grew up in Ridgefield, NJ. She is predeceased by both her parents and only sister, Catherine.

June married Charles R. Thiemann in 1966 and they relocated to “sleepy” Toms River from Bergen County. They had two children, a daughter, Jill and a son, Chad.

June was a lifetime caretaker both for her family and in her long professional career as a Registered Nurse. She graduated with a nursing diploma from Hackensack School of Nursing and worked as a nurse in many capacities over the years. She worked as the ER nurse at Community Medical Center in Toms River in the late 1960’s when the ER had only 4 beds and one nurse per shift. While raising her family she worked as a substitute school nurse in the Toms River school system. She later became a Certified Registered Rehab Nurse and worked for 21 years at HealthSouth (now Encompass) in Toms River. She retired in 2006.

For approximately 18 years June was a “snowbird” and spent the cold New Jersey winters in sunny and warm Largo, Florida.

June loved the beach, drives in the car with her husband, reading, playing Mexican Train dominoes, all kinds of puzzles, and was a lifelong devotee of Jeopardy. She also loved to travel with her daughter. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, and she (and Santa) always went way over the top! June was kind, good-natured, quiet and unassuming but at the same time was referred to as the “General” by her family since she was the center of it.

June was the heart of her family and is survived by her favorite daughter, Jill L. Thiemann, Esq.; her favorite son-in-law, Vin North both of Toms River, NJ; her favorite son, Chad R. Thiemann; her favorite daughter-in-law, Lorenda (“Ren”) Thiemann both of Plano, TX; her favorite granddaughter, Caroline Thiemann of Waco, TX and several cousins.

By her wishes there will be no services. June battled and beat breast cancer 20 years ago but despite a valiant fight she could not survive lung cancer. To honor June and as an expression of your sympathy to her loved ones, please consider a memorial gift to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, “for the kids”, as June wished.
