Karen Jarahian Cross, 74, of Brick, NJ, passed away on March 23, 2026. She was raised by her parents, Edward and Pauline Hughes, in Dunellen, NJ, before later moving to the Jersey Shore. Karen dedicated her life to ministry and education, serving as a church educator in Branchburg, Brielle, Red Bank, Rumson, Bronxville, and Scarsdale, and as a Chaplain in Jersey Shore Medical Center.
A gifted speaker, storyteller, and writer, she moved many with her formidable sermons and served as a keynote speaker for The Reformed Church of America. Karen earned her Master’s magna cum laude from New Brunswick Theological Seminary. She was extraordinarily creative, leaving behind incredible works of art in the many homes and spaces of the people she cherished most. And above all else, a deeply loved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Cross; her sisters, Paula Yarusi and Jean Lucey, her sons, Keith O’Donnell and Edward Jarahian (and his wife, Amanda Jarahian); her daughter, Jessica Jackson (and her husband, Craig Jackson); and her cherished grandchildren; Eli O’Donnell, Brielle O’Donnell, Rodney Jarahian III, Edward Jarahian, and Hannah Jackson. She was preceded in death by her son, Rodney Jarahian Jr.
Karen found great joy in collecting treasures that told stories and in crafting her beautiful garden. Her favorite phrase, “would you like to see my garden?” captured her warmth and enthusiasm for sharing beauty with others.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in her memory.
A Memorial Gathering to celebrate Karen's life will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ.
