Born and raised in Utrecht, The Netherlands, he immigrated to America at age 18 in 1952 along with his parents and brother. Since then, he resided at various locations throughout New Jersey including Hoboken, Paterson, Wayne, The Caldwells, and Toms River. He resided in Berkeley Township for the past quarter century.
Shortly after immigrating, Leo joined the United States Army. He was stationed in Europe for two years of service during the mid-1950s with the 36th Infantry Regiment, 9th division; then honorably discharged.
Leo was a lifelong member of various Reformed Churches. Locally he participated in the Pinelands Reformed Church. Earlier, his membership was with the Reformed Bible Church of Pompton Plains, NJ. Nearly seventy years ago, in the Hoboken Christian Reformed Church he met and married his dear wife Harmanna Baron.
For over thirty years, Leo worked as a skilled precision machinist. Much of his work was in the aerospace industry. Some of his fabrications for Project Apollo still rest on the moon!
