Leonard E Fornelius passed away on October 30, 2026 peacefully and comfortably, with his 2 daughters Kate and Lauren and lifelong friend Barbara by his side. Affectionately known as Lenny or Len, he was a unique soul that embraced and valued human connection above all else.
He served in the US Army active duty in Vietnam. He spent his career as a mail carrier and retired early to be a devoted grandfather to his 5 grandchildren Layna, Jordan, Gianna, Anthony, and Bella. He was present at every major and minor event in their lives, a constant source of love and support, and was always up for making their favorite Pop breakfast, Swedish pancakes.
Lenny loved anything sports. Not only did he play many sports when he was young, he was an encyclopedia of sports stats. Throughout his life, he enjoyed being active and outdoors including cycling (from NJ to VT once), 37 marathons and decades of Spring Lake 5 mile runs. A friend once referred to him as "The Marathon Mailman".
His favorite things to do were spend time surrounded by family and friends with great food and conversations, going to the beach, concerts, long walks and meeting people.
Lenny was intelligent, funny, lived life to the fullest and knew every day was a gift. That's the legacy he leaves behind for all those who knew him. We know that he is already listening to his favorite music and training for his next marathon.
The family asks that you honor the memory of Lenny by extending kindness to a stranger or donating to some of the charities he cherished, Saint Jude Children's Hospital and Tunnels to Towers.
