

Lorraine was a graduate of St. Michael elementary school, Union, NJ and Mount St Dominic Academy, Caldwell, NJ. After high school Lorraine entered the community of the sisters of St. Dominic Caldwell. Lorraine was a member of the community from 1957 until 1973. She attended and graduated from Caldwell College with a Bachelor of Arts, from Fordham University with a Master of Arts, and Kean College with a certification in Administration. Lorraine had various jobs within the community, which included nursing the sick sisters in the infirmary. After leaving the community, Lorraine was a coordinator of Religious Education at St. Genevieve’s in Elizabeth, NJ. She began teaching in the Elizabeth Public Schools at Hamilton Middle School in 1979 and remained there until her retirement in 2000. Lorraine was named Teacher of the Year in 1986. At that time, she summed up her philosophy of teaching with the following quote. “Every Child has the right to learn, and all teachers have the right and responsibility to teach them. Remember, speaking with kindness goes a long way in the classroom”. A woman of great faith, even during her illnesses, she prayed daily and communicated God’s love to all she touched. Lorraine was a valued friend, she was always there to console and support her many family members and friends with a kind word or an inspiring thought. Lorraine had tremendous sense of humor and her slightly naughty Santa impersonations at faculty parties will long be remembered.
In her final days, Lorraine was content she felt she had achieved her life goals. Pre deceased by her parents, Mildred and Edward Grill, she is survived by her sister, Marsha Christopher, her nephew, John Christopher (Lisa), and her niece, Catherine Christopher. In addition, she is survived by her grand nieces and nephews, Christina Kovacs (fiancé Nicholas Signorelli), Robert Kovacs Jr., Ethan Christopher, Sarah Parisi, and Philip Christopher also her great-grand niece RayLee Kovacs and Baby Angelo Signorelli. The family would like to thank the many aides who helped to care for Lorraine over the last almost 5 years, especially, Erin, Zee, Ashley, Erica, Julia and Christine C. In addition, the family is grateful to her wonderful medical team made up of Cathy Corbett PA and Dr. Matthew Regulski.
