Maria Buckner

Maria Buckner, age 100, of Whiting, NJ passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024 at AristaCare in Whiting. Born and raised in Cassino, Italy, she lived in Trenton before moving to Whiting in 2007. Maria worked at Arctic Ice Cream Restaurant in Ewing Township as a cook for over 25 years before her retirement. Her breakfast specials were very popular and the customers always came back for more. Maria loved cooking elegant Italian meals for the holidays, trips to Atlantic City and spending time with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed playing cards with her friends in Whiting and having pizza out with the gang. She had a wonderful sense of humor and kept everyone laughing all the time.

Maria was predeceased by her husband Tony Prokolyshen in 2009 and her son Marco in 2009. Surviving are her daughter Mary Schwartz (Jim); grandchildren Crystal Muckelston (Nick), James Schwartz (Jody) and Kimberly Ausiello (Mike); her cherished great grandchildren Lucas, Kyle and Sophia; her sister Nunziatina and her sister-in-law Enid Fitzpatrick and nephew Andy.

Visitation will be on Sunday, October 27, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River. Private graveside services will be on Monday at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Manahawkin.
