

Mary A. Johanesen, age 82, of Whiting, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Arbors Care Center in Toms River, NJ. Her husband, Charles A. (Charlie) Johanesen Sr., age 89, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Whiting Healthcare.
Born in Orange, NJ, Charlie lived in Rahway for 42 years and was a clerk for Town Hardware Inc. in Clark, NJ for 45 years. He was a United States Army veteran having been stationed in Korea. He was a Cub Scout leader as well as a Boy Scout advisor. Mary was born in Alexandria Township and raised in Avenel, NJ. She was a crossing guard for the City of Rahway for 20 years. She also enjoyed making crafts and was an active member in her ceramic club. In 1999 the couple moved to Whiting and enjoyed spending time with their family.
Charlie and Mary were married for 63 years. They were predeceased by their parents as well as Charlie's sisters, Charlotte Ruscica and Betty Koy and Mary's siblings, Florence Schink, Philip Mai, Susan McQueeney, Elizabeth Baumle, Grace Rimkus, Gustov Mai, Pauline Mai, John Mai and William Mai.
Surviving are their children MaryAnn Kalucki and her husband, Andrew of Holmdel, Charles A. Johanesen Jr. of Metuchen, NJ, Richard Johanesen and his wife, Theresa of Bridgewater, NJ, and Edward Johanesen and his wife, Susan of Chester Township, NJ; grandchildren Amelia, Stanley, Douglas and Karen Kalucki, Christen, Katherine and Karilyn Johanesen, Alexandra and Louisa Johanesen; great-grandchildren Natalie, Miranda and Lorelei Johanesen; Mary's siblings Margaret Kato, Catherine Schweitzer, Frank Mai and Victoria Stavick.
A memorial visitation honoring the lives of Charlie and Mary will be held on Sunday, June 25, 2017 from 2PM to 4PM at Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River.
