

Matthew graduated from Passaic High School and later pursued his passion for teaching, graduating from Ithaca College, NY, in 1956. Following college, Matthew started his career as a physical education teacher in the Clifton School system for 34 years. Matthew also served his Country in the U.S. Army from September 9, 1959 to August 31, 1965, where he was awarded the Good Conduct Metal. He was stationed in Korea for one year in a M.A.S.H. Unit. Matthew was an active member of the Athenia Veteran’s Post on Huron Avenue, Clifton, NJ.
Matthew married his devoting and loving wife, Mary “Rochelle” Alessi (Gaudet), and recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his wife, Rochelle, his daughters Susan (and husband Bill) Kosturko of Clermont, FL, and Patricia Alessi Scardigno of Shark River Hills, NJ. He leaves to cherish his five grandchildren, Tyler, Melissa, Brittany, Kelsey and Billy. Matthew believed family was a gift and spending time with his family was essential because tomorrow is never promised.
Matthew will receive an honorary Military Service Burial during a private service at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
