He was a devoted son and loving brother and the husband of the late Marie Galinkin for whom he profoundly grieved for many years. A devotee of the blues and collector of vinyl, he maintained a vast knowledge of music, played a mean harmonica and was very adept at Jeopardy, which he watched with his mother, Phyllis every single night for many many years. He had a magical magnetism for dogs, each and every dog he ever met loved him immediately which speaks volumes of a man's character. We called him the "Dog Whisperer" . His departure was sudden and shocking and he shall be truly missed for his kindnesses and humble demeanor.
Mitch was born September 26, 1951 in Paul Kimball Hospital, Lakewood, NJ and was a lifelong resident of Toms River, NJ of which he was very proud. Mitch attended Toms River High School graduating in 1969. After High School Mitch attended the College of Artesia in New Mexico. Upon returning from school he worked as the assistant manager of Harmony House Record shop where his love of music grew. Mitch was a self proclaimed "Bluesologist". His next stop was at the Tinder Box in the Ocean County Mall where he was able to smoke his beloved pipes and start a collection of Jack Weinberger pipes. He then went on to work at M & R Candy and Tobacco until the business closed. The remainder of his work career was with the Toms River Department of Public Works where he manned the Recycling Gate. He always commented after he retired that the only thing he missed were the dogs that would come in with their owners..Mitch always had a treat or two for each visiting dog.
May 5, 1990 Mitch married the LOVE of his life, Marie Miller. Sadly Marie passed away approximately 20 years ago and Mitch's life would never be the same. He was never able to get through her death and grieved her all these years.
Mitch was an intelligent, kind, funny, sweet soul with the most beautiful blue eyes which are now helping others to see because of his generous organ donation.
