

Born November 30, 1951 in Bronx, New York to Peter and Olga (Mormoluk) Kulibaba, Nicolas attended Howell High School in Howell, New Jersey. He went on to university graduating in 1974, with a BA in Religion from Allegheny College. From 1972 - 1973, he served as National Defense Foreign Language Fellow, University of Chicago, and Andhra University, India. In 1975 he received his MA in Social Anthropology from the University of Oxford. He then joined the Peace Corps and spent the next three years in Togo which began his love affair with the people of West Africa.
He had a heart filled with compassion for humanity and a courageous warrior's spirit motivating him to fight for social justice, alleviating poverty, and empowering the voiceless.
His career in International Trade and Development took him to over sixty countries in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and the former Soviet Union. At the time of his death he was employed by Management System International, Inc. as the Anti-Corruption Team Leader of a USAID project in Bamako, Mali.
Throughout his career he would return to Mali many times establishing strong ties to its people and the land. He will be deeply missed by his Malian families and friends.
He is predeceased by his parents, Peter and Olga Kulibaba.
He is survived by his wife Lily Kulibaba of Whiting, New Jersey, his sister Susan Goedkoop of Howell Twp, New Jersey, two nieces, and a grandnephew.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 26th, at 1:00 PM, at St. Stephens Episcopal Church,180 Route 539, Whiting, NJ 08759. We invite you to share stories and reflections during the service. There will be an informal reception immediately following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall for friends and family.
