Peter often referred to himself as a “Swell Fella,” but to those who knew and loved him, that was truly an understatement.
He loved his family more than anything, and that love was evident in how he lived his life.
Born in Boonton, and raised in Brick, New Jersey, Peter spent most of his adult life working for Shore Heart Group, where he was dedicated to his patients and colleagues. His kindness and compassion left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Above all, Peter loved his children deeply. Being their father was his greatest joy. He was always ready to play, make jokes, be silly, or teach them manners. His Christian faith guided how he cared for them and others.
Peter is survived by his spouse, Krista Costello (née Canning); his children, Holden F. Costello (21), Emily O. Brown (18), and Anya V. Costello (12); his father and stepmother, Steven and Maggie Costello of South Dakota, his mother, Robin Homan of Arizona; his brother and sister-in-law, James and Elizabeth Costello of Arizona; and his loving in-laws, nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
A visitation and service to honor Peter’s life will be held at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM with a funeral service at 3:30 PM.
In lieu of cut flower arrangements, the family is requesting perennials or shrubs, which may be delivered or brought with you, so they can create an at-home living tribute in Peter’s memory.
Alternatively, donations may be made in Peter’s name to Ocean County Baptist Church on Old Freehold Road in Toms River, or the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) at www.nami.org/personal-giving/memorial-and-honorary-giving/.
This “Swell Fella” made the world a little better for every person he knew, and we take comfort in knowing he is at peace with the Lord.
