

Reginald (Rex) Thomas Worthy entered heaven peacefully at his home on Wednesday evening, December 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Though we mourn our loss, we are comforted by knowing that he is liberated from pain and rejoicing in heaven with our Lord and Savior. His love and legacy of kindness, humbleness, faithfulness to God and devotion to his family and friends will forever remain in our hearts.
He is survived by his beloved wife and soul mate of 68 years, Kay Worthy, daughter Sharon and husband Michael, son David and wife Pam, nine grandchildren and their respective spouses, Ashley (Kevin), Amanda, Jonathan (Samantha), Corey (Jamie), Alyssa, Danielle (Rob), Josh (Brittany), Kevin (Stratton), Allison (Kenny), five great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Harper, Max, Carson and Colton, brother-in-law John, nieces and nephews Matthew, Martha, Mark, Pam, Connie, their respective spouses and many, many friends.
Born on November 25, 1934 in Sweet Valley, PA, Rex moved frequently, eventually settling in Erie, PA where he attended the Salvation Army youth program and met Kay who became the love of his life. After graduating high school and dedicating his life to God, he moved to Bronx, New York to attend the Salvation Army School for Officer Training. One year later after much prayer, Kay entered training school. They married two years later and embarked together on their life long careers of service to God as Salvation Army Officers.
Rex served as a Corps Officer in many appointments and locations throughout Pennsylvania and New York, during which time he was quickly promoted to the rank of Major. He served in various positions in the New York and Massachusetts Headquarters and on staff at the School for Officer Training. He was especially honored to be appointed as Divisional Commander of the Bahamas for three years.
Rex loved the outdoors and looked forward to camping, boating, fishing and teaching Indian Folk Lore at scout camps every summer. He also loved playing trombone in the Salvation Army bands, singing in the Songsters, playing and teaching guitar to his many young soldiers, including his grandchildren.
His enthusiasm for travel led him to visit many states, including Hawaii, several European countries, many Caribbean Islands, Israel and Kenya, Africa where he preached alongside a Kenyan minister to a Maasai tribe. Most recently, he and Kay have enjoyed walking the New Jersey boardwalks and spending time together at Lake Horicon near their home.
He will be remembered always for his unwavering faith, unconditional love, compassion for others and steadfast commitment to God.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 15th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at The Salvation Army, 1738 NJ-37, Toms River, NJ. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 12:00 p.m. followed by a luncheon. Flowers may be sent to Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ 08753.
