
Richard W. Cohen, age 74, of the Greenbriar Woodlands section of Toms River passed away on Monday, September 7, 2020 at home. Born in Brooklyn, he lived there until moving to Brick in 1973. He later moved to Toms River, settling in Greenbriar Woodlands five years ago.
Mr. Cohen began his career as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service in Brooklyn, and transferred to Brick in 1973. He continued as a letter carrier and clerk until he retired in 2001 after 32 years of service. He later worked as a bus driver for the Brick Board of education for seven years, and later for Briggs transportation in Point Pleasant until retiring in November, 2019. He received his private pilot’s license in 1982, and owned his own plane based out of Lakewood Airport. He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He loved his family, and his happiest moments were when his family was together.
Predeceased by his parents, Daniel Cohen and Beverly (Krupnick) Finkelstein and sister Faith Cohen, Mr. Cohen is survived by his wife, Sally; his children, Marcy Paolillo and her husband Joey of Toms River, and Jason Cohen of Trenton; his brother, Michael Cohen and his wife Marylu of Virginia Beach, VA; his sister, Ellen Paolillo and her husband John of Toms River; his brother from another mother Lenny Oaks and his wife Helen of Toms River; his grandchildren, Danny, Joey, and Sarina; his great-grandchild Ryan; and his nieces and nephews, Cara, Dana, Louis, Christopher, Jonathan, Jason, Mark, and Keith
Graveside services will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at Ocean County Memorial Park, 1722 Silverton Road, Toms River. The family will be sitting Shiva at their home following the entombment, and again on Thursday and Friday from 12-8 each day. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Jersey Shore Animal Shelter, Brick NJ would be appreciated.
