

Dr. Richard DeWorsop, 65, passed away Monday, June 28, 2021, after a lengthy battle with congestive heart failure. He was born in Bangalore, India, graduated from St. John’s Medical College Bangalore, and did his residency and fellowship at SUNY Downstate Hospital, Brooklyn, NY. In 1988, he started his Psychiatry practice in Toms River, NJ and worked there, as well as at Community Medical Center, Toms River and Kimball Hospital, Lakewood until he became seriously ill in 2015. He enjoyed and loved his work and every patient was special to him. Richard, known to friends and family as ‘Smasher’, was a creative man with many talents. He was a skilled artist who enjoyed drawing, woodworking and carving. He was strong, inventive, loving and supportive, and always had an open ear for those who needed one, especially friends and family. He was a loving and dedicated father who inspired, nurtured and challenged his children in their pursuits. He was hardworking and fiercely independent, and never shied away from a challenge. He made every effort to live the life he wanted and he fought the good fight till the very end. He is survived by his wife Maria, children David and Tara, his brothers Gordon (Irene) and Carl (Michele), their children, and his much loved cats - Maya and Leela. All who knew him will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River from 2-4 PM & 7-9PM on Thursday, July 1st and Funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Church, Toms River at 10 AM on Friday, July 2nd. Cremation will be private.
