Robert J. Bowlby Sr.

Robert J. Bowlby, 72, of South Toms River, passed away peacefully at home on July 14, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on October 13, 1952 in Plainfield, NJ, Bob grew up in Plainfield and Belmar. Bob proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran, completing two terms of service. Following his military career, he dedicated over 40 years to Jersey Shore Medical Center, where he served as Supervisor of Security Services. He was respected for his leadership, calm presence, and steadfast dedication to the safety of others. Bob was an avid chess player and always loved a good competitive card game with family!

Bob was a devoted husband and father, whose life was defined by quiet strength, integrity, and unwavering love for his family. He was predeceased by his father, Robert K. Bowlby; his mother and stepfather, Elizabeth and Albert Gill; and his brother, Thomas Bowlby.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Freda Bowlby; his daughter, Joanne Solan, and her husband James; and his son, Robert Bowlby, Jr. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Fariello, and her husband Frank, along with extended family and cherished friends who will miss him deeply.

Visitation will be on Saturday, July 19, 2025 from 2:00pm until the prayer service and military honors at 5:00 PM at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St. Toms River, NJ.
