Robert “Sparky” Brown passed away on September 25, 2021 at the age of 65, in Bayville, New Jersey. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a laugh and a Marlboro Red.
Sparky was born in Camden and moved with his family to Seaside Park. He spent his early years surfing 24th Ave with his brothers and best friend, Kris Endreson, fishing, causing mischief, and giving local law enforcement a run for their money.
He spent some time in Florida before meeting his former wife, Leslie Mangold, settling down in Bayville, and raising their children.
He spent many years as a cook at Berkeley Seafood and spent decades as a union master plumber, well driller, and general handyman. He passed these skills onto his children, who could clean pipes and crabs before they graduated kindergarten.
Sparky will be remembered for his heart, his sense of humor, and tough love. He would drop anything at any time to help those he cared about, while also reminding them that they shouldn't have gotten themselves into that position to begin with.
Sparky is survived by his favorite children, his dogs, Henry and Sherman, as well as his children, Jared, Jeffrey, and Jessica Brown, sister Dee Wells, brother David and wife Debra Brown, brother Butch Brown, and beloved nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother Dorothy Brown, father Francis Brown, and brother Michael Brown.
Visiting will be held Wednesday, September 29, 2021, from 4:00 PM until the funeral service at 6:30 PM at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St. Toms River. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Deborah Heart & Lung Center, Browns Mills, NJ or Popcorn Park Zoo, Forked River, NJ.
Remember to live life to the fullest, and in Spark's words- "get cash first."
