Robin Eleanor Schaad was born on January 28, 1961 to Betty and Edwin Applegate. She grew up in Toms River with her three younger brothers James, Dale and Glen. Robin was a proud graduate of Toms River High School South in 1979. She was a clarinet player in the marching band, and continued to enjoy watching marching bands perform throughout her entire life. One of her favorite part time jobs growing up was working at Lucky Leo’s arcade in Seaside Heights in the summer.
After high school, Robin attended Monmouth College, now known as Monmouth University, where her daughter would eventually follow in her footsteps. After four years at Monmouth, Robin graduated with her BS as a Lab Technology major. She shared many stories of her time as a TKE sister with all of her “big brothers” (Monmouth did not have sororities at the time, so she joined a fraternity).
Starting in her final year of college, Robin worked at Jersey Shore Medical Center as a Lab Tech and later transferred to IT. Robin met and married Sean Schaad in 1993 and moved to Island Heights, where they raised their children Jillian and Noah. When Robin and Sean met, they spent time running 5k’s and half marathons, walking Robin’s cocker spaniel Jinglebells, and skiing. Her other rescued four-legged companions were a bull mastiff named Paws who passed away in 2020 and an Australian blue heeler named Gus who misses her greatly.
Robin was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Toms River her entire life. She grew up going to youth groups, playing bells, and singing in the church choir. When asked about her favorite memories growing up, Robin specifically noted hanging out with her cousins: Terry, Lauren, Paula, and Patty.
Robin loved and supported her children through all of their endeavors, and was always there to lend them a helping hand whenever they needed her.
Robin passed away February 7, 2025 surrounded by her family at the very same hospital she worked at for 42 years. Robin was kind hearted and a bright light to those around her throughout her entire life. Everyone that was fortunate enough to know her was a better person for it, and she will be greatly missed by each person that was lucky enough to love and be loved by her.
