

Ruth Marie Hamilton, 80, of Toms River, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Beachwood, she lived there until she moved to Holiday City at Berkeley in 2001 and recently to Toms River. Ruth graduated from Toms River High School in 1952. She worked for the Toms River Board of Education for 30 years. Ruth was a Brownie Leader, PTA and PTO officer at Pine Beach School, a Beachwood Recreation Vice President and one of the founders of the Beachwood/Pine Beach Softball League and also a coach. She was a volunteer at Community Medical Center, working in the emergency department. In 2002 she was awarded the prestigious honor of Excellence In Caring Award. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Toms River.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 57 years Carlton in 2012, her parents, Joseph and Phyllis Knowles and her brother Richard Knowles. Surviving are two devoted daughters, Teresa Petty and her husband Ron of Toms River and Carleen Kramer and her husband George of Toms River; her cherished grandchildren Haley Petty of Toms River, Candice Waszkiewicz and her husband Greg of Toms River, Christine Ouellette and her husband Nick of Beachwood and Carlton and his fiancé Cady Coleman of Bayville; and great grandson Hamilton Ouellette. She had many joys in life but the main one was her husband and their two daughters, her four grandchildren and great grandson.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, Sept 22, 2013 at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Sept 23, 2013 at St. Joseph’s RC Church, 685 Hooper Ave, Toms River. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Community Medical Center, 99 Route 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755 in Ruth’s memory.
