Sheila Sosis (nee Forman), daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, May 17, 2025. She was born on November 16, 1936, and grew up in Brooklyn, NY, with her parents, Shirley and Max, and two sisters, Gloria and Irene, all who predeceased her. She raised her family with her husband Jordan, who predeceased her, on Long Island and then in New Jersey.
She had five children: Robin (Robert) Weitz, Jay (Darlene), who predeceased her, David (Kim), Mark (Terri) and Lisa (Bob) Hankins. She has eight grandchildren: Stacy (Ari) Nisman, Steven (Elizabeth) Weitz, Jessica Hankins, Jake Hankins, Zachary Hankins, Melanie Hankins, Kenny Hankins, and Jonah Sosis, and two great-grandchildren: Reese and Jordan Nisman. She worked for the Ocean County Health Department as a bookkeeper for over 25 years, retiring in 2004. As the matriarch of the family, her opinions were always valued and sought out. Sheila embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and unending generosity. She showered her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with infinite love and support. She loved trips to Atlantic City, spending time with family, reading, crocheting, and taking care of her plants. She will be missed.
Services will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 11 am at Congregation B’nai Israel, Old Freehold Rd. Toms River, NJ. The family will be sitting Shiva after services on May 20th until Friday, May 23, 2025 from 12-7 p.m. each day at 7 Le Diamant Street, Toms River.
