Sophie Chmura

AGE: 88 SOUTH SEASIDE PARK

Sophie Chmura, 88, of South Seaside Park, passed away on Monday, Aug. 23, 2010 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Born in Newark, she lived in Watchung and summered in Ortley Beach before moving to South Seaside Park 14 years ago. For many years she was a cook for a catering service in Newark and then retired from the food service department of Scotch Plains School System. Sophie loved being with her family and enjoyed creating delicious meals with them.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph in 2001 and her sister, Estelle Matusiak. Surviving are her loving daughter, Geraldine Kelly and her husband George of Ortley Beach; two sisters, Theresa Pawlikowski of Port Reading and Lillian Scarpa of Scotch Plains; two beloved grandchildren, Donna Faxon and her husband Ted and Greg Kelly; and five cherished great grandchildren, Dylan, Kelly, Riley, Aiden and Carly.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St. Toms River. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Toms River. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Toms River. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 in Sophie's memory.
