Born in his family’s home in Seaside Park on January 28, 1924, Tom passed away comforted by his family in the same roomwhere he was born. Tom was proud to be a lifelong resident of Seaside Park. After graduating Newman High School in Lakewood, Tom attended Princeton University and graduated in the class of 1944. He was a member of the Princeton Club and was an active member of the Alumni.
He was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy, during WW II, serving as a Lieutenant aboard the destroyer USS Osterhaus. After his service to his country, Tom owned and operated Thomas C. Hiering Realty & Insurance, Seaside Park, for many years. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Catharine of Siena Church in Seaside Park. He previously served on the Central Regional Board of Education and was active in the Seaside Community.
He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Phoebe Hiering and his brothers, Albert Hiering, William T. Hiering and James G. Hiering. Surviving are his nieces and nephews: Phoebe Peckos, Alberta Hiering, Christine Beatty, William T. Hiering, Jr., Robert Hiering, Carol Hiering, Lisa Urbank, Susan Hiering, Leslie Schmidt, Julie Sullivan and Tricia Schilling. He is also survived by his close family friend Michael Kubichek and many grandnieces and nephews.
Visiting will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2013 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St. Toms River. A funeral Mass to celebrate Thomas’ life will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2013, 10:00 AM at St. Catharine of Siena Church, 50 E Street, Seaside Park. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Toms River. Friends are invited to visit www.andersonandcampbell.com to send tributes to his family.
