It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of James Thomas Ferguson, Jr., age 77, who died on Friday, May 22nd, 2026 at his home in Toms River after a two year battle with cancer.
Tom touched countless lives through his kindness, faith, music and generous spirit. He was a devoted husband and grandfather, and a loving father, brother and uncle to his large extended family.
Tom was a faithful member of his church and Christian community. His life was grounded in faith and worship, and compassion and service to others. He was full of warmth and humility, offering encouragement, friendship and joy to those around him.
Music was one of the great gifts of his life. Blessed with remarkable talent and a beautiful singing voice, Tom brought happiness to many through his participation in church choirs and his many years touring with Barbershop Harmony Society. Whether singing and playing the guitar among friends and family, or lifting his voice in worship, he shared not only his love for music, but joy itself. Beyond music, Tom was an avid golfer, and a master carpenter and skilled craftsman whose hands created lasting works of beauty and care.
Tom will always be remembered for the way he made people feel — welcomed, valued and loved. His gentle, joyful spirit, generous heart and unwavering faith left an unforgettable mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends and church communities, and all of those whose lives he enriched.
Tom is survived by his wife of 32 years, Eileen, and her children Jennifer and Douglas, and grandchildren Connor, Cooper, Chris and Madison, his son Rodney, and preceded in death by his sons Adam and David. Tom’s surviving siblings include five sisters, Jacqueline, Judith, Patricia, Jenny and Michelle, and four brothers, Julius, Charles, William and Barry.
