Ginny would light up a room when she would walk in.  Always friendly and ready with a quick wit, she was a good friend and a great lady.  If you needed help, you knew Ginny was there for you.  So sad.   Love Bev and Tony Mazzella

My dear friend Andrea Vahey gave me a very special gift. It is a classroom bell. The husband of my 3rd grade teacher gave it to her because he wanted it to go to a teacher when his wife had to go in a home because of dementia. Andrea told him she taught with one of his wife’s former students who was now a teacher & asked if she could give it to that teacher. He thought it was a lovely idea. 

Yesterday my 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Virginia “Ginny” White passed away. #HooperAveElementary 1980-1981. This bell sat on her classroom desk. She seemed big when I was 9 but she was a short spunky lady who no one messes with. She taught me a love of math. She gave me an extra math workbook (that I still have w orange cover) so I would raise my math score the few points I needed to make the Gifted & Talent program in TRRS. Her efforts payed off. She brought a former student in to teach us origami. We sang our times tables to songs on records that went through how to multiple. That was high tech then. We all loved the 3x tables and the 7x tables because the songs they used had the fasted beat. I moved and went to #WalnutStElementary for 5-6 grade but Mrs. White & I kept in touch by writing letters to each other. When I graduated from college in 1994. I went to visit her at “The Big H” which was the name that was on T-Shirts they sold back before they were the Hooper Huskies! I told her about how she was one of many teachers in Toms River who inspired me to be a teacher & I remembered how she challenged me to always strive to learn more. 26 years later I still love teaching and connecting with my students... inspiring them to learn as Mrs. White inspired me. RIP Ginny.
