

Walter H. Osterwald, 84, of Toms River, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Born in Weehawken, NJ, he lived in Union City before moving to Toms River in 1990. Walter proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the Union City Police Department in 1982, after 28 years of dedicated service. He later worked for the U.S. Post Office Bulk Center in Jersey City. Walter was a member of the NJ PBA Retired Officers Local No. 600 in Woodbridge; the NJ PBA Local No. 8 in Union City; and American Legion Post No. 129 in Toms River. He enjoyed fishing, bingo and he loved spending time with his cherished family, especially his grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years, Florence in 2009. Surviving are his son Walter; two daughters, Cheryl Bolinger and her husband Roy and Lisa Morrell and her fiancé Anthony Garuccio; his brother Arthur and his wife Barbara; and his loving grandchildren Kristin, Stephen, Lauren and Leah.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct 9 and Thursday, Oct 10 at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. A funeral mass will be held on Friday at 9:15 a.m. at St. Luke Church, 1674 Old Freehold Rd., Toms River. Entombment will follow at Ocean County Memorial Park in Toms River.
