
William E. Meyer Jr., age 80, of Toms River, died on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at Van Dyke Hospice, Community Medical Center. Bill was born and reared in Bayonne, NJ, and lived most of his life in Toms River, where he moved with his wife Joan in 1957. He was employed by Sherwin-Williams as branch manager in Toms River for 25 years and later worked for Interface carpet until his retirement in 1996. Within the community, Bill was a dedicated Scout Leader and council member of the Boy Scouts of America and an active participant in pet therapy programs at local nursing homes. With his wife Joan, Bill wrote a camping column for the Asbury Park Press and co-authored "Canoe Trails of the Jersey Shore." Bill was an avid outdoorsman, a member of the Presbyterian Church of Toms River, and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Bill was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Joan P. Meyer; his parents, William and Elizabeth Meyer, and son, William E. Meyer III. Surviving are three sons, John K. Meyer, of Toms River, Robert J. Meyer, of Arlington, VA, and Thomas D. Meyer, also of Toms River; one daughter, Laurie A. Pasquariello of Forked River; and eight grandchildren, Jeffrey, Marissa, James, Michael, Jessica, Nicole, Caitlin, and Nicholas.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 14th at 1PM at the Presbyterian Church of Toms River, 1070 Hooper Avenue, Toms River. The family requests that donations in lieu of flowers be made in Bill's memory to the Hope Center of the House of Hope of Ocean County, 253 Chestnut St, Toms River, NJ 08753 (732) 341-4447. Interment will be private under the direction of Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, Toms River, NJ.
