Aline leaves her children, Michèle Adams (and son-in-law Doug Clark) of San Anselmo, Calif., Roderic Adams of Orrville, Ont., and Danielle Adams of Toronto; and her grandchildren, Josie Adams, Charlie Adams and Felix Tu. She also leaves her sister Gisèle Crowley, brothers Fernand Audet and Pierre Audet, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings Paul Audet, Clement Audet, Françoise Dinan, Marcelle Bilodeau and Claude Audet.
Born in Quebec City on Oct. 5, 1930, to Sylvio Audet and Rose-Aimée Cloutier, Aline was part of a large francophone Roman Catholic family. Her siblings were her friends when she was growing up and she remained close to them throughout her life.
Always skilled with words, Aline opted to leave university after her first year to write a women's column for a Quebec City newspaper. Another job offer led her to make a bold move in the mid-1950s to an ad agency in Toronto, where she planted roots and started her family. She doted on her three babies and shifted to working at home as a freelance translator so she could balance her career and parenting. Aline was a lover of good food and served her children boeuf bourguignon and steak tartare at a time when French cuisine was an anomaly in Toronto.
After her marriage ended in 1983, she happily began a new chapter in her life in which she read books, spent time with her best friend, Céline Ziezold, and later helped nurture her grandchildren. Her brothers and sisters became travel companions on trips to Porto, Paris and various ports around the Mediterranean.
Aline maintained a positive attitude despite a dementia diagnosis in recent years.
Her funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7 at St. Brigid's Catholic Church at 300 Wolverleigh Blvd. in Toronto. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Covenant House Toronto or Michael Garron Hospital Foundation.
