Ana Marusic

Ana Marusic (nee Novinc) was born in 1926 on a farm in the village of Globodol, Slovenia. She was proud of her heritage and was active in the Slovenian community, where she had many friends. Her mother was Ana Oklešen and her father (who died one month before she was born) was Franc Novinc.

Travelling alone, Ana fled Yugoslavia during World War II and came to Canada. She worked at the Bank of Commerce (CIBC) in Toronto and soon married Leo Marusic, who predeceased her in 1999. She was predeceased by her son, Frank Marusic, in 2020, a loss that filled her final years with great sorrow.

Ana will be missed by her daughter Marianne Marusic; and granddaughters Alice McMurtry (Evan McMurtry) and Laura McClintock (Robert Ormston); and her sister Rozalija Slak. She will also be lovingly

remembered by many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Michigan, Windsor, Croatia, and Slovenia. She is predeceased by her sisters Slavka, Mihela, Marija, Jožefa, Štefanja and brother Jože.

Ana and Leo had their family home in Leaside where their friends on Divadale Drive were a constant source of kindness, compassion, and help. Gardening, cooking, travelling, and classical music were among Ana’s favourite pastimes. She enjoyed trips to Europe, Venezuela, Mexico, and the United States as well as many outings with her daughter and granddaughters.

A devout Catholic, Ana found strength and comfort in her religion. She was uplifted by her connections to Marija Pomagaj parish and the Jesuit parish Our Lady of Lourdes.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes, 520 Sherbourne Street in Toronto on Saturday, February 12th at 10:30 am.
