They say "with time all wounds heal"..... not sure how long it takes before the hurt goes away? It is truly amazing how much you have impacted all our lives. I often times find myself thinking about you, no matter how much pain you were in you always said "I'm ok". You were and will always be the greatest uncle. Christina is always asking about you and hoping God is taking care of you, and I say yes, you are in the best place, He is in good hands!!! We came to visit you at the cemetary the other day, and Christina asked if you could come to her Communion.... It brought tears to my eyes. Then she said "I know Zio will be there in spirt and in my heart" It goes without saying  no matter how young or old, you had a magical way with people.

We think about you all the time, you are always in our thoughts and in our hearts... We miss you so much!!!

Nonno, so many words can be used to describe what kind of man you were. You held many qualities that shaped us who we all are today. You were Compassionate, loving, hard-working, and selfless, and it is because of this we are all able to carry on your legacy and follow in your footsteps to make not only our future a better one but others' around us as well. You are the complete definition of a man; a human being all people should follow and become. They bible says that Jesus was the only man to walk the earth without sin, I can truly say that although no man in this world is perfect, you were the closest thing there was to it. When times become rough, I can remember the way you treated people; put others first before yourself, and how you continuted to work hard even when things were rough. I remember when I was younger I used to come visit you at screenco every once and a while, and although you owned the company with 2 others, not once did I see you sitting behind a desk in a suit taking it easy. You were dressed in the blue screenco overalls coverd in greese working on the machines. This is the man I want to become someday. A person who has power, money, respect, but not for a second lets it take a hold of them. You treated everyone like they were equal to you, if not better. Speaking to others that worked under you at the time of screenco, they said they couldnt remember a time they seen you upset, impatient, or disrespectful to anyone. If you were having a bad day, you would smile, because it gave others the courage to get through the day. As perfect of a man you were, sometimes I had to tell you you were wrong! Sorry nonno, but I still think Oakdale shortcut is faster then Arrow road, and no, the islington and pine valley way isnt faster then taking the 400 to king! But this is why we love you. Even though deep down I kinda thought it was a much longer way, I still decided to take it because not only did I look up to you, but it gave me more time to spend time with you in the car. I took you for granted, I really did. There were times I went to work that was literally 10 minutes from your house, and I was just too tired from work and went home. If I had a second chance with you being here I would have wished I would have stopped by every chance I got even if it was for just 2 minutes, or for a nice plate of pasta. But I know you loved me, you loved all of us, there is no doubt about that. I told others that when you passed away, in the hospital, I felt a sense of relief, I actually smiled, not because you were gone, but because your suffering came to an end, and now you could be in a better place with your mother, father, and brother. I told others that I feel like you are still here with us, not physically, but in spirit. Its like you didnt even leave, just went on a short vacation and that we would see eachother soon. Its been hard for me these past couple weeks but I know you are watching over us, and that you are apart of me, and for this, I have become stronger then what I was before. Thank you for all the things you have done for me and the family. I love you nonno. P.s Please toss me down some luck from up there <3

Nonno, it's only been a few days and we already miss you like crazy.  You were and always will be the heart and soul of our family.

You have taught us valuable life lessons that will stay with us always.  The most important being FAMILY.  You were always there for us no matter the situation, steering us in the right direction.

Your life story is one to be honoured and treasured.  You have always lead by example, putting your family first and most importantly, your "Poopie".  We promise to do everything in our power to keep Nonna smiling and enjoying life, like you would want her to.

I have been blessed with the honours of having your name given to me and I will do everything in my power to make you proud of me.  I know you will be looking down on us everyday to ensure our happiness.


Nonno, you have treated me like your very own blood from the first time I met you.  To me, you were like my real blood too.  I was very lucky to have you as a Nonno and be apart of your family....I would not want it any other way!  You are one of a kind, very rare to find...a true loving man, who would give and do anything.  A "Heart of Gold" is what you have and I see so much of that in Anthony!

You will always be with us forever and I hope that you will be smiling down on us from Heaven and sharing in all of our special moments!

Today we are here  to pay our respects and celebrate the life of Antonio Vincenzo DiProspero our grandfather.  It goes without saying that there are really no words that can fairly portray a person like our Nonno and what he meant to all of us.  What can you say about someone that ventured to a new country as a very young man soon after his first child was born to build a better life for his family and leaves us today with the legacy which we all admire so greatly

My grandfather was known by many names: , Nonno ,  Vincenzo, Antonio, Loretto, Zizi ,  Fratello, and in the most endearing way "Sweetie" by my Nonna and  "Shagal" by those who loved to joke with him.  And whether it be as a son, a brother, a husband, a grandfather, great grandfather or friend he can only be described as a very special man that we have all been blessed to have in our lives.  My Zi Emilio puts it in a very simple way... He was the BEST!

Nonno was full of life, and life was never better for him than when he was with his family. To my grandfather having my Nonna, his children, grand children and his brothers together eating, laughing, singing and playing cards or bocci was absolute heaven.  That is all that mattered to him and nothing gave him more happiness. Nonno was famous for crying at the drop of a hat.  At every birthday, Christmas or frankly any get together he was sure to cry at some point.  Whenever he saw someone else happy, have a success, or simply family together enjoying each other he was sure to cry.  These were always tears of joy.  The greatest lesson I learned from him is that family is to be cherished and is the most important thing in life ...... Nothing else comes close.

There were absolutely no limits to his generosity or his love as his sole purpose was to make others happy. He was the most unselfish person.  Every action, every word, and every thought he had was for others.  He was the happiest when he knew that his family and friends were happy and doing well and he would do anything to ensure that was the case.  There was essentially nothing that anyone could ask of him that he would not do.  He would truly give you the shirt of his back.


My Nonno was a one of a kind human being that will be remembered for so many different reasons.  On the one hand, he was a devoted husband and a loving father and brother. On the other hand , he was always one of the coolest guys in the room.  In one moment you can see him and my Nonna  holding hands and kissing like two teenagers in love after OVER 60 years of marriage and in another moment in Las Vegas with 20 guys at my stag hanging with the boys til the wee hours of the morning and not missing a beat .  He was just one of us....Now that is cool.  

To see the greatness in my grandfather all one had to do was witness the relationships he had with people in his life. As a husband, my Nonna was his greatest prize.  He was constantly fussing over her and making sure that she was ok while sneaking in a kiss or a squeeze every chance he got.  With my Mom and my Uncle Nick he was always there for them, again with the only goal of making sure they were happy and loved.  Their relationship was quite amazing.  As my brothers and my cousins got older, they would spend more and more time together on weekends going on trips and the "occasional"casino visit of course.  It was beautiful and rare to see my Mom and my Uncle spend so much time with their mother and father.  It was less like a parent/child relationship and more like friends.  When I look at my mother today,  I can see a lot of Nonno in the way she is, especially with family and her grand kids. The same goes for my Uncle Nick and Zi Anna.  Watching them with Melissa and Michael, it is very easy to see Nonno and that their children are the world to them.  With his brothers, Zi Emilio and Zi Benny, watching  those three together at family functions was Pure Magic!  Today's reality TV shows have nothing on them when "the Fratelli" were in high gear.  Nothing but non stop enterainment, lots of jokes, lots of laughter, lots of singing, lots of dancing and  OF COURSE lots of wine!  Celebrating life and eachother. Even with my Dad, I know my dad refers to my Nonno as his "best friend".  A father-in-law as a best friend..... Remarkable and very cool to say the least.  All this attributable to the amazing person my Nonno was.  I don't think there is a person that has ever met my grandfather that could ever say one bad thing about him.  For  those of you who had the chance to read the beautiful  letter on display at the funeral home from his granddaughter Julia, it is clear that no matter young or old, my Nonno had an amazing ability to connect with people in a way they would never forget.  For me and my brothers John and Anthony, and my cousins Melissa and Michael,  the greatest gift we've ever been given was to grow up with our Nonno in our lives for so long.

My Nonno  is our family.  Our family is as strong as it is today because of him.  He is  the patriarch and the glue  of the family but not in the normal way.  He lead by example in a very unassuming way and not by a commanding fist.  He was always in control and successful in all aspects of his life from his business to his family, but to spend time with him, he would never come across as a man  that sought to be known as a leader - it just came natural to him.    As a simple example, I can still see him sitting at the poker table at a family function pretending to not know how to play the game but always winning.  That was his way.  He knew exactly what he was doing, and doing it in a way that made everyone have fun and enjoy themselves.  He was a perfectionist in everything he did whether it was his business, tending to his gardens, making his wine or MOST importantly, in his relationship with family and friends..... There were NO short cuts for him.  To me his incredible gardens are a physical representation of the love and care he put into all aspects of his life. For  me personally, he taught me how to drive for perfection in everything that I  do BUT NEVER lose sight of what is most important in life ....Family.

I have never met and will never know someone like my grandfather and frankly I don't need to because I got to love the original, witness how he impacted so many lives and taught me more about life than I can ever want. Nonno, I would like to thank you  from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done for me, our family and so many people here today.  May god bless you and may you continue to watch over us as we try to make you proud and continue your legacy in your honor.

Dear Nonno Tony,
You're gone now but never forgotten, I know you're up there in heaven with God watching over all of us. You were one the most kind, nice, caring, respectful man I ever will know. You would always put everyone before you and make sure everyone was fine. I honestly looked up to you so much for the man you are. How you were so brave and strong, how much you loved and cared for your family and the people around you, and how you always had a smile and could make anyone laugh. The garden you have is the most amazing garden I have ever seen and it will be kept in good care because you loved it so much. I remember all the times we had together like playing bocce , playing around and so much more. You were and still are a very big part of my life. Oh and you were a very good with hula hoops. You loved red wine I would to, and how you would always take a big bite out of an onion. You told me eating onions was good for you, and how good I forget smelling horse manure clears your lungs. Nonno you were truly an amazing man that everyone will always remember forever and always. You have so many people that love you and care about you and I know why. You played a big part in my life, taught me things about life that I will never forget, you were one of my biggest role models and still are. I strive to be like, to care like you, to be so thoughtful of other people, to enjoy life, to love, to eat good food, to be successful just like you. You're in my heart forever and always I'm always thinking of you and always will. I wish you were still here but now you're in a better place with God watching all of us, and in a way you are still with us not physically but emotionally. I love and care for you so much words can not describe you were an amazing Nonno I couldn't have asked for a better one I hope you know that. My condolences to everyone in the family.  I am glad that I had the opportunity to visit him in the hospital last week, where, even at 11:00 p.m., he had a smile on his face as he greeted me.
