

Father Arthur Connell died on the morning of Sept. 25, 2012 at Scarborough General Hospital. He was born Aug. 20, 1928 in Chatham, New Brunswick. He was professed as a Redemptorist on Aug. 2, 1948 and ordained a priest on June 28, 1953 in Woodstock, Ontario. After five years teaching at St. Mary’s College in Brockville, he began a long career in extraordinary preaching—parish missions and retreats in particular—as well as a five year stint as pastor of St. Peter’s Parish, Saint John, NB (1991-96). After retirement he gradually slowed down, ending his years at LaSalle Manor and then Bendale Acres where he received excellent care. Fr. Art is survived by one sister, Gertie Venn of Cornwall, ON, along with numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. A Mass of Christian Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, 141 McCaul St., Toronto at 10 am on Saturday, Sept. 29th. Viewing will be before Mass. A Mass of Christian Resurrection will also be celebrated at St. Michael’s Basilica in Miramichi (Chatham), NB on Tuesday, Oct. 2nd at 11am, followed by interment in the St. Michael’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or the Perpetual Help TV Devotions of the Redemptorists.
