Following a brief illness Bernard Joseph Halligan passed away in Brampton, Ontario, just shy of his 91st birthday. He is survived by his wife of over 27 years Mary Elizabeth (Bette) Halligan (nee Laverty), his children Diane Maloney (Tom), Steve (Fatima), Gary (Sylvia), step-son Dean Owen Jr., sister Mary Woods (Bill) and many grand, great grand children and nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by his wife of over 30 years Laura Marie (nee Lalonde); siblings Frank (Aldora), Peter (Yolanda), Theresa Rochford (Patrick) and Margaret Karraidjas (Constangine).
Known affectionately as “Barnie”, “Bernie” or “BJ”, he was a long time resident of the east end of Toronto and, sadly, a Leafs fan. Dad joined the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve in May of 1944 and served as seaman until he was honourably discharged in March of 1946 with service on the high seas. Dad was an employee of CN Rail then the City of Toronto Parking Authority until he retired.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Tall Pines Long Term Care Centre of Brampton for the kind and compassionate care shown to Dad. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations be made to your favourite charity.
