

Flora died at age 87, leaving behind a legacy of love and family. Born in Cane Grove, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, Guyana, she married Mohamed Ghanie (d. 1970) and together they raised their children in Windsor Forest, WCD, Guyana, before she began the journey of emigrating her family to Canada between 1974 and 1978. As a strong and supportive single parent, she worked tirelessly to ensure each of her children had a strong foundation for the future. Throughout her career, Flora worked in women’s fashion sales, and in her personal life she was known for her independence, adventurous spirit, and love of the outdoors. She enjoyed camping, cherished nature, and delighted in getting behind the wheel of her car to visit family and friends.
Flora’s legacy of love, strength, and family endures across generations. She will be remembered always for the bonds she nurtured and the example she set.
Beloved mother of Sharon Naseema “Nas” Norman, and her late husband Connolly Norman (d. 2022); Mohamed Hafizul “Hafiz” Ghanie and his wife Barbara; Mohamed Nazimul “Nazim” Ghanie (d. 2017); Saleema “Thelma” Stacey and her husband Ray Stacey; and Bibi Halima “Baby” Ganie. Stepmother of Mohamed Usuf “Lalo” Ghanie (d. 1967), and Mohamed Osman “Dado” Ghanie and his wife Sonia.
Flora is survived by her sisters Gulshan, Nazmoon “Lovin”, Amiran “Loreen”, Ameerul “Orlean” and Queresshein “Maureen”, and brother Mohamed Ali “Sona” .
She was predeceased by her brothers Haidar Ali, Abdul Rasiff “Balay”, Nazir Ali and sisters Hazra, Mairam “Janet”, Kaidran “Zoreen”, Farida “Fawzee”.
Flora also leaves behind, grandchildren, Nicole Ghanie, Courtney Ghanie, Derek Ghanie, Trevor Ghanie, Kevin Ghanie, Emma Stacey, Ethan Stacey and Allanna Ghanie, and great-grandchildren Thatcher Ghanie, Ellawyn Ghanie, Aubree Ghanie, Benjamin Ghanie and Logan Ghanie.
The family would like to acknowledge the special friendship of Claire Patterson to Flora over the years.
Also, special thanks to Ami Wloclawski (PSW), for the care and comfort she has provided to Flora over the past three years.
Funeral arrangements will be private. In lieu of gatherings or flowers, the family asks that Flora be remembered in moments spent enjoying nature, which she loved so deeply, whether in the quiet of the outdoors, on a walk, or in time shared with family and friends.
