Mr. Bohumir (Bob) Joseph Nechvatal

We are sad to announce the passing of Bob Nechvatal at the age of 81 on Sunday Sept. 20, 2015, after a battle with a number of serious illnesses. Born in Czechoslovakia, he immigrated to Canada in December 1968 with his wife Marie (Haklova) Nechvatal and even though they divorced, they always remained friends.

In his professional life, he designed and estimated sprinkler systems of many prominent buildings and structures in Toronto such as the Eaton Centre, CN Tower, Roy Thomson Hall as well as many hospitals and other public buildings. Through a partnership, Bob’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to start his own fire protection company. In his spare time as a professional swim coach, he trained many national level swimmers some of whom went on to win gold medals at national, international and Olympic competitions. He saw the importance of education, and perseverance and dedicated his time and effort in helping children and adolescents reach their goals. He was recognized as Grampa Bob in Cabbagetown, Toronto, a familiar face each morning at the Tim Horton’s on Parliament Street, a place he frequented until his death.

Bob was a loving father to Renata Dzuba (with husband Eric Dzuba) and Yvette Nechvatal-Drew (with husband John Drew) and was a kind and loving grandfather to four grandchildren: Natasha, Braeden, Lauren and Nicole. He leaves behind his twin sister Dana Koči and younger brother Otakar Nechvatal and their children, Dana Koči (Kolarík family), Luboš Koci (with family) and David Nechvatal (with family). He will be sadly missed by all and will always be remembered in our hearts.

A graveside service will be held at the Toronto Necropolis on October 3rd, 2015 at 12 noon.
