Nagymama,

You are one of the strongest women I have ever known. If I admit it, I think I was a bit intimidated the first time we met. I'm pretty sure I was bit of an enigma to you.. she doesn't eat meat?! She eats chicken though, right 😂 OR how could pepper soup be considered spicy? I think I only got by at first because my last name was Hungarian. But under that tough facade was also the biggest heart. I never saw someone melt more when holding her great grandchildren. Your love for your family was inspiring. It was my privilege to know you and I'm thankful for all the times we got to spend together.

Although we were far apart, I never felt anything but love from you. The look on your face when we would show up for a visit, the big hugs and kisses you gave, and the immediate need to feed us with whatever treat you had baked recently - I love those moments and am so grateful to have had so many. I'm so happy that you were able to see and enjoy the family that you and Nagypapa made together - thank you for all you gave to your family, for the strength you instilled in your daughters and for the love you showed each and every one of us. 

I love you and will miss you.

It is with a broken heart that I say goodbye to the strongest, most amazing Mom, a true gift from God.Mom, you gave Eva and I the best childhood we could have ever wished for. It was filled with love and laughter, and memories of family time spent together.  Memories. that I will forever cherish. All our trips to Niagara Falls and Ady Park were something we looked forward to. Nothing was better than the days that we all got to spend together. Nothing was ever more important than family. It was the four of us against the world.One of my all time favorite things was listening to you sing…right up to the very end. Your voice was always the one that made everyone in church turn around to see where that beautiful voice was coming from.  It always made me feel so proud to be standing next to you to be a part of that. Nothing compares to how I feel when someone says to me “ you look just like your mother”…how lucky am I?Your beautiful smile always brought a smile to my face.  Nothing warmed my heart more than seeing your eyes sparkle when you asked about your grandchildren and great grandchildren.Thank you for teaching Eva and I Hungarian. I always felt like we belonged to an elite club when we spoke to each other in Hungarian while you felt so proud that you managed to raise two bilingual girls in a new country that must have felt so foreign to you. How brave you and Dad were to risk everything you knew to give us the wonderful life we had.  You taught me those wonderful,silly, Hungarian nursery rhymes and songs, that I have had the privilege of singing to all my little ones…even though they had no clue what the words meant. We looked so forward to our family visits because you made every visit so memorable. In spite of the distance we always made it work. Mom I could go on and on with all the things I am grateful to you for, but the truth is, the list would never end, just like my love, and respect for you.  I love you always and forever, edes Anyu

Today our family lost an amazing Mom and Grandmother. Nagymama you were the strongest, most caring women I have ever known. I will never forget our summers together growing up! You always made sure I never stopped having fun ( even if it meant 3 bus rides ❤️).  

Your life wasn’t always easy but you never gave up and always fought for what you knew was right.

I hope you find peace today and have a beer up with Dad.and Nagypapa

I love you more then you ever knew thank you for everything 

When I think of Barb I can smell the amazing fragrance of all the baked goods she would make and  remember the warm smiles that welcomed me every time I walked into her home as a teenager.  The woman that made me “creamed peas” when I was pregnant with my first child!

She was incredibly strong and very loving at the same time and I know I am a better person for having known her. 

I will never forget you Barb.

Today we lost my Nagymama (Grandma). She was and will always be one of the toughest and strongest women I know. She immigrated to Canada in the middle of the night, escaping war-torn communist Hungary in 1957, while pregnant with my mom, along with my Nagypapa (Grandpa) and my Nenye (Aunt), who was a toddler. This is a true testament to how resilient my Nagy was. 
I have so many fond memories of her. From her babysitting me to taking care of me while I was sick, to our long bikerides down the Humber river, and being able to fix and open anything and everything. We used to laugh because she would push Dad out the way and show him the “right way” to do something.
She was always my cheerleader. Where others would fault, in her eyes I could do no wrong.
These past few years have been hard, watching the person who was my person fade, but always seeming to have glimpses of her old self. Even up until yesterday, through all the turmoil, she gave me that same sly smirk when I walked into the room— I will forever cherish that.
I believe with every piece of my being that you’re in a better place looking down on us all with Nagypapa, Pops and Austin.

To My Beautiful Mom
December 5, 1929 - August 28, 2021

How do I say good bye to the woman who gave me life and love?  The truth is that I don’t know. What I do know is that I will do it the same way that you lived your life, with grace, strength and dignity.  You taught me that these characteristics weren’t an option  but rather a requirement for life. 

I am so pleased and privileged to call you my Mom. You were the first person in this world that I loved, and I did love you with every fibre of my being.  You were my role model. Because of all you instilled in me I have lived a life filled with love.  You taught me the value of family. Because of you I have been a better wife, a better mom, a better grandmother and will strive to continue to make you proud of the woman you taught me to be.  I will be eternally grateful for all these gifts you gave me. 
They say that the heaviest hearts are the fullest ones.  This has been a concept that I’ve been desperately trying to hold on to for the past year and a half.   Without a doubt my heart is full and it’s with these memories that I will find the strength to move forward.  
Thank you so much for being exactly who you were.  I have loved you and will continue to love you and keep your memory and legacy alive.
