Brian John Elcombe, 69, passed away peacefully and surrounded by the love of family on Thursday, March 27, 2025. Brian, the only child of Gwen (Forrest) and John Elcombe, was born in Montreal Quebec. Sadly his mother passed away when Brian was 13 months old. Brian lived with grandparents, Rev Frederick and Maggie Elcombe until he was 7 when his father remarried. The family relocated to Toronto in 1969
partly due to the FLQ crisis. His 20 plus years in Scouting would introduce him to lifelong friends as well as his future wife. At the age of 17, Brian applied for a job as a mail clerk at Canadian National Railway. He would retire 40 years later having worked mainly in accounting. Brian was an active union member raising to become president of his large local. He also served on the board of directors of AllTrans Credit Union for 9 years. A man of deep faith, Brian was most comfortable in performing acts of service whether as a student minister or barbecuing at the church picnic. Brian said he found his mission the day he became involved with the Glen Rhodes, now Nourish East End food bank, becoming a tireless warrior for the dignity of the volunteers and clients.
Left to mourn are his wife of 48 years Lea Pollard Elcombe, beloved children John, Sara, David and treasured mother in law Eva Pollard.
The celebration of life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at St. Paul’s United Church, 200 MacIntosh St. Scarborough. Reception to follow in Wanstead Hall.
A private interment will be held at St. John’s Norway cemetery on April 14, 2025.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Nourish East End or St. Paul’s United Church.
