July 17, 1927 – June 23, 2022
Our beloved aunt and great aunt passed away peacefully the evening of Thursday, June 23, 2022. Her passing came twenty-four days before her 95th birthday.
Calliope was born in Dirrevmata, Euboea (Greece) in 1927 to Kyriakoula and Nikolaos Sapoutzis and immigrated to Canada in 1956 to be with her sister, Maria (nee: Sapoutzi) and brother-in-law, Nazmi Alievitch. Calliope lived in Toronto, Ontario with her husband and worked at McGregor Socks for several decades. She was a devoted wife and aunt as well as an active member of the church. Calliope was a woman of many passions including, needlepoint, sewing, knitting, and gardening.
She will be lovingly remembered by her niece and caregiver, Sophie Kula Pilavakis; her great nieces in Canada, Androulla, Maria, and Elena Pilavakis; and her many extended family members and friends.
Calliope was predeceased by her parents, Kyriakoula and Nikolaos Sapoutzis; husband Kurtis Rama; siblings, Kostas Sapoutzis, Maria Alievitch, Giannis Veziris, and Stavroula Spetsioti; and nephew, Theofilos Spetsiotis.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 29th, 2022 from 9:00am - 11:00am at Delmoro Funeral Home, 61 Beverly Hills Dr, Toronto, ON M3L 1A2. The church service will follow at 11:30am at Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church,1 Brookhaven Dr, Toronto, ON M6M 4N6. Interment at Prospect Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church.
The family would like to thank the medical staff and employees at Sunnyside Seniors Home for their care of Calliope. Special thanks to PSWs Lisa, Meaghan, Yvonne, and Katay for your kindness, love and compassion. Also, many thanks to the residents who welcomed her and became friends.
