Daniel Sobreira Da Costa passed away peacefully in Oakville, Ontario, on January 30, 2026, just two days after celebrating his 88th birthday. Born on January 28, 1938, in Vales, Leiria, Portugal, Daniel carried his love for his homeland with him throughout his life.
Daniel was the devoted husband of Maria Madalena, his beloved wife of 64 years. He will be deeply missed by his loving children: Nela (Marco), Anabela (Giancarlo), and Suzy (Miguel). He was a cherished and proud Vôvô to Daniel (Jenny), Samantha (Andy), Rachel, Lucia, Daniela, Matteo, Carlo, Declan, and Sofia, and a loving Bisavô to Benjamin and Charli.
He is now reunited with his many family members, his parents, José and Albina and his four brothers: António, Carlos, Manuel, and Luciano who went before him.
Daniel is survived by his brother-in-laws, José (Georgina), Faustino (Emberlinda), Tony (Élia), and his sister-in-law Lúcia (Arnaldo) along with his nieces and nephews.
Daniel is lovingly remembered for his devotion to God and family and his tireless work ethic. In his retirement, he was an active member of St. Mary’s Church in Toronto and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Daniel delighted in simple pleasures. Days spent on the beaches in Quarteira and Nazaré, Portugal, his fondness for birds, the satisfaction he found in using his hands to make and fix things and cheering on his favourite soccer teams Benfica and the Portuguese national team (Seleção). By the work of his hands and the kindness of his heart, he created memories that will endure.
His legacy of love, dedication, and family will continue to live on in all who knew him.
