July 15 2025, peacefully after a sudden illness.
David was born on July 13 1937, in St. Boniface, Manitoba, first born of Arthur
and Ida Ewens. David grew up in Minnedosa, Manitoba alongside his brother
Basil and sister Daphne. He attended United College in Winnipeg and
afterwards joined the Bank of Nova Scotia in 1959, where he worked until his
retirement in 2000. His career with the bank took him to several locations in
the prairie provinces and ultimately to Toronto in 1963, where he lived since
then.
In 1969 he met and married his first wife Alicia (nee Eppenstein). He adopted
Alicia’s son Peter Andrew and they had a daughter, Carol Elizabeth in 1972.
Sadly, David was widowed in 1992 when Alicia died of cancer. In 2003 he met
and married Clair (Yvonne Jerred), to whom he was married for almost 22
years. Since his retirement, David and Clair enjoyed family and friends, travel,
and especially Jazz.
David is predeceased by his sister Daphne, and survived by his second wife
Clair, his son Peter, daughter Carol, daughter-in-law Diane, granddaughter
Jacqueline, and his brother Basil and sister-in-law Carmen.
David was much loved by his own family and the extended families of both
Alicia and Clair. He also leaves behind many friends who will fondly remember
his spirit, kindness, and love. We will miss him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, his family is requesting donations to St Michael’s Hospital
Foundation in memory of David.
A mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 520
Sherbourne St, Toronto on August 2 at 9:30am, followed by a reception and
celebration immediately after at Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home and Chapel at
467 Sherbourne St. A portion of his ashes will be interred with those of his first
wife, Alicia, at Mt Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto at 1:30pm the same day.
He will be forever loved by each, and every one of us
