Short story writer, poet, David James French (now Dayv James-French) was born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island August 18, 1953 and died in Toronto on September 1, 2016. He leaves his sister, Leanne French, his brother, Richard French (Cindy), his partner of 36 years, David K. Bernhardt, and special friend, Susan Thornton. Education: Carleton University (B.A. Religion, 1979), University of Victoria (Creative Writing, 1980). Member: Writer’s Union of Canada. Awards: Canada Council Explorations Grant (1982), Nepean Public Library Short Story Award (1989), Ontario Arts Council Works-in-Progress Grant (1991). Anthologies: Coming Attractions (1986), 88: Best Canadian Stories (1988), The Macmillan Anthology (1990). As well as The New Writers (Quarry Press, 1990). His poems were published in Canada, The U.S.A., England and Australia. Publications include Victims of Gravity (1990) and What Else is a Heart For (revised as The Afternoon of Day Five, 2006).
